SEO is the process of generating leads and converting them into customers by optimizing the website for search engines (primarily Google). The main aim of SEO is to improve the visibility of a website in search engine results pages (SERPs).

The visibility of your website on a search engine can be equated to your market share in the real world. The better your visibility, the more people will know about you, and the more leads you will generate.

This highly-valuable market share cannot be purchased; it must be earned through a game we call SEO, search engine optimization.

Games are won and lost by those who understand how to play the game. Your ability to rank high on a search engine is directly proportional to the skill of the individual who is optimizing your website.

You already understand this.

One of the biggest influences on marketing for me was reading The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.”

The same is true for SEO. If you understand how Google works, and you understand how your website works, you can make your site rank for just about anything.

It’s all about understanding the series of steps (let’s call them conversions) that occur along the path to the top of the mountain.

What does it take to get a “true” conversion?

Step 1: Keyword Research (Rankings)

Step 2: Ranking on Google (Impressions)

Step 3: Getting the Click (Click Through Rate)

Step 4: Click to Call/Email (Potential Lead)

Step 5: Potential Client to Paying Client (Return on Investment)
